Work Placement

The level 8 Accounting and Finance degree at TU Dublin currently offers students the option to complete a work placement worth 5 credits in summer of year 3. TU Dublin’s new Accounting and Finance degree commencing with 1st year students in September 2021 will offer students work placement for a full semester, semester 7 worth 30 credits. For many full-time students, placement provide them with their first opportunity to experience a structured accounting and finance work setting. Students gain firsthand experience of the operation of the organisation in which they are placed and are expected to become involved in a wide range of work activities in order to gain practical experience of as many aspects of the business as possible. Placement not only helps the student develop work methods and discipline but also provides them with an opportunity to develop a range of personal skills and attributes which will benefit them in their future career.

Placement Aims

The aims of placement are to:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to participate, under supervision, in the operations of a company or organisation involved in area of accounting or finance.
  • Award students experience of a professional working environment.
  • Offer students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge gained during their programme of study, best industry practice to real life accounting and finance to aid in refining their accounting and finance skills.
  • Assist the student in determining their preferred area of professional practice.

Placement Objectives

Having successfully completed placement, the students will be able to:

  • Distinguish between key roles within a Business/ Accounting organisation
  • Identify and demonstrate core employability skills
  • Identify the various career or work options for a graduate
  • Reflect critically on the learning occasioned by engagement as part of a work force
  • Compile a report as evidence of knowledge and skills gained through this placement
